IS SOLAR PV THE

BEST RENEWABLE

INVESTMENT?

In this day and age, we all know generating energy from
renewable sources can mean a significant reduction in

your home or business energy bills and carbon footprint as
well as an income stream from the Government financial
incentives. However, with so many options available, you
may be wondering whether solar PV is a better investment
than wind turbines or biomass. A good energy checklist
aimed at identifying your most cost-effective opportunities
with the quickest payback times could include the following
questions:

• Are you off the gas network and currently using electricity,
oil or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to provide your
heating requirements? Consider heat pumps, biomass
fuel heating and / or solar water heating.

• Do you have southerly facing, unshaded roof space?
Consider solar water heating and solar photovoltaics
(PV).
• Is your home or business in a rural or semi-rural area? Is
it in a coastal region and exposed to constant or nearly
constant prevailing wind that is strong enough to move
leaves on nearby trees? Consider a wind turbine.
