SOLAR ENERGY FOCUS
HOW MUCH MONEY COULD I
MAKE?
Your electricity supplier will pay you a set rate for each unit
or kWh of electricity you generate. The rate will depend on
the band of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for
your property: If your property’s EPC is band D or better,
standard rates for solar PV vary from 12.13 to 14.38 p / kWh.
If you have an EPC which shows that your property is a band
E, F or G you will either have to carry out energy efficiency
improvements if you want to receive your FITs payments at
the standard rates or receive FITs payments at a lower rate,
currently 6.38 p / kWh, for the lifetime of the tariff.
You will also obtain 4.77 p / kWh from your electricity
supplier for each unit you export back to the electricity grid.
If you are based in Britain and already in receipt of Feed-In
Tariffs, the rate you get will increase in line with inflation in
accordance with the Retail Price Index (RPI).
The Energy Savings Trust calculators provide tailored
estimates:

energy/Getting-money-back/Solar-Energy-Calculator
for PV solar panels.

wind turbines, hydroelectricity or micro-combined heat
and power systems.
For the vast majority of people the payback period for the initial investment is around
ten years. After that, there is a further 10 years of making income.
