SOLAR ENERGY FOCUS
In order to try to reach our Europe 2020 target the UK would
like to deliver 15% of its energy consumption from renewable
sources by 2020.
Technology breakdown (TWh) for central view of
deployment in 2020.
Central range for
2020 (TWh)
Onshore wind 24-32
Offshore wind 33-58
Biomass electricity 32-50
Marine 1
Biomass heat (non-domestic) 36-50
Air-source and Ground-source heat pumps
(non-domestic) 16-22
Renewable transport Up to 48 TWh
Others (including hydro, geothermal, solar and 14
domestic heat)
Estimated 15% target 234
Feed-In Tariffs were introduced on 1 April 2010 as the main financial incentive to
encourage uptake of renewable small-scale electricity-generating technologies. Most
domestic technologies including solar panels qualify for the scheme.
